Files over silos
Company knowledge should live in files you control — plain, portable, readable by any tool — not inside the walled databases of whichever apps happen to be popular this decade. If your AI agents are going to remember anything, let them remember it in a format you could still open in thirty years.
Companies outlive their software
The average company will replace its wiki three times in a decade. Each migration is announced as an upgrade, and each one quietly sheds weight: the pages nobody claimed, the decisions recorded in comments, the context that only made sense in the old structure. The knowledge didn't die of old age. It died in the export you never ran.
This is the quiet failure mode of the modern stack. Not a breach, not an outage — just a slow scattering of what your company knows across tools that were never designed to give it back.
The silo tax
Every app you adopt is also a database you don't control. The notes live in one vendor's cloud, the tickets in another's, the decisions in a chat log with a search box that stops working past a few months. Ten tools means ten partial memories, none of them yours, none of them speaking to each other.
You pay this tax in small denominations — a five-minute hunt here, a re-litigated decision there — so it never shows up on an invoice. But add it up across a team and a decade, and the silo tax is one of the largest line items your company doesn't track.
AI raised the stakes

A company brain stored as plain files is not a nostalgic choice. It is a strategic one:
- Any tool can read it. Markdown needs no SDK, no API key, no vendor in business. Every editor, every script, every model — today's and 2036's — can open it.
- You can diff it. Knowledge that changes as files can be versioned, reviewed and rolled back like code. Silos have edit histories; files have accountability.
- You can leave. The exit is a folder copy, not a migration project. A vendor that knows you can leave treats you differently.
- Agents share it. Over the Model Context Protocol, one folder of files becomes the common memory of every AI app you run — instead of ten agents keeping ten diaries.
Our bet
We built Fleece AI Brain on this principle: everything your company teaches it — every note, every decision, every fact an agent remembers — is a plain Markdown file on a disk you control. Our software organizes those files, maps them, meters them. But the files would survive us, and that is the point.
